What Is the Best Time to Go Whitewater Rafting in Northern California?

Many consider the spring and summer months the best time to go whitewater rafting in Northern California. However, Bigfoot Rafting offers whitewater rafting trips year-round.

For example, our Two Rivers Overnighter and Lower Trinity 3-Day Trip are each offered all year, but the Upper Trinity Overnighter is available only from June through September. Our three types of guided half-day trips are all open year-round.

We offer eight types of guided full-day trips, three of which are offered all year. One is available from June through September, two from June through August and two from April through May.

Thorough details about each type of trip are available on our website, including the minimum number of people required to book, prices, the meeting place, age requirements and the trip length.

Weather can impact what trips can take place and when. Please review our cancellation policy before booking your trip.

Are All Trips Available to All Ages?

Review the experience levels of each trip before you book because not all trips are available to all ages. We offer trips for ages 4 and up. Kids must be at least 4 years old for Class I and II trips, at least 10 for Class III and age 18-plus for Class IV and V trips. Anyone younger than 18 years old needs to have an adult sign our waiver that allows them to take the trip. The waiver is available on our website.

Class I trips are easy, while Class II trips are for novices and beginners. Class III trips are for those at an intermediate level. Class IV are for advanced adventurers, and Class V trips are for experts.

Benefits of Trinity River/Mt. Shasta Area Over Other Areas in California

If you’re one of the many people who loves good secrets and hidden gems, you’ll appreciate whitewater rafting on the Trinity River in the Mt. Shasta area. Opting to have your adventure in this area as opposed to other places across the state comes with several perks, including that it’s less crowded during the summer.

The area has many special, secluded areas to explore and plenty of wildlife to keep an eye out for. The area is beautiful, and it’s a great opportunity to enjoy fresh air mixed with an adrenaline rush and good company.

Items You Should Bring

As enjoyable as your whitewater rafting experience will be, you’ll want to make sure you’re set with everything you need for a fun, satisfying trip. Wear lightweight clothing and a comfortable bathing suit. You should also sport sturdy footwear that secures to your feet and sunglasses to protect your eyes and make it easier to see in bright sunlight.

It’s a good idea to bring another set of clothes to change into after going whitewater rafting. If you’re staying overnight in one of our cabin rentals, don’t forget extra clothing and toiletries. After you make your trip reservation, ask one of our staff members if you need to bring anything specific for your whitewater rafting trip.
